Course Description:

This training course provides a comprehensive overview of vocational education and training (VET) in Belgium, focusing on its structure, policies, and best practices. Participants will gain a deep understanding of how the Belgian VET system is organized across its three regions—Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels—and how it responds to the diverse needs of the workforce and local labor markets.

The course will explore Belgium's dual education system, which combines classroom-based learning with practical, on-the-job training, and how this system prepares students for various professional sectors. Emphasis will be placed on the strong collaboration between educational institutions, businesses, and trade unions in shaping curriculum and ensuring that VET programs align with industry standards and labor market demands. Participants will also learn about Belgium’s focus on lifelong learning and how VET plays a central role in adult education, reskilling, and workforce development.

Key topics include the educational pathways available in VET, the role of apprenticeship programs, and how vocational training contributes to social inclusion and economic growth. The course will also address Belgium’s policies on inclusion and accessibility, particularly in offering VET opportunities to underrepresented groups, including low-skilled workers, young people, and immigrants.
